Opening the NetHelp generates this Error.
IE 11 and same on Chrome!
We already had this Topic some years ago. I could not find any solution!
Do you have one?November 5, 2013 at 11:06 pm #601259
If you are trying to open the Nethelp locally in Google Chrome browser, I would like to inform you that the NetHelp installed locally will not open in Chrome or Opera because of limitations with these browsers, but it will display in all other browsers as mentioned here:
Sometimes we can make this work anyway, like in the following blog post, but it isn’t guaranteed:
Regarding opening the Nethelp in IE 11, please note that the support for IE 11 will be added in the next release build of DocToHelp.
In case the same error occurs with other older versions of IE or firefox, you are requested to take a look at the following forum posts where a similar issue has been discussed:
Hope it helps.
Thanks and Regards,

I have just yesterday taken over a NetHelp installation and I have experienced this error in IE 11 and Chrome when starting NetHelp locally (NetHelp runs OK in Firefox). I notice from this thread that the problem is with “NetHelp installed locally”
Can I be sure that external web users are not experiencing this error if they using IE 11 or Chrome – or do I need to upgrade Doc To Help and recompile NetHelp?December 4, 2013 at 11:30 pm #603430
Yes, you are correct in understanding that you would need to upgrade to the latest build of DocToHelp and recompile your Nethelp. As mentioned earlier, the support for IE11 has been added in the latest build of DocToHelp which can be downloaded from the following link:
You may try using the same and verify that the problem does not occur with the latest build.
Hope it clarifies.
Thanks and Regards,

Hi, I downloaded the free trial of DocToHelp and I bumped into the very same error first only with Chrome. Since it was a locally installed NetHelp, I was ignoring the error and working with IE (10) and FireFox. But all of a sudden, I have the same error on both IE and Firefox as well. I have no clue what is going wrong. Except for playing around with Styles, I don’t remember doing anything.
Any leads please? Tx.October 15, 2015 at 8:53 am #608131
Hello, I am testing the trial of Doc-To-Help (version 2014.1.0.935) for my company and I am facing the same issue with no solution in sight.
I don’t see much of an answer from ComponentOne. If there is no solution for this issue I would discourage the acquisition of D2H.October 19, 2015 at 2:36 am #608132
If you watch the same issue with all your browsers (which versions do you have?) it might be that they are newer than D2H 2014V1. Current D2H version is D2H 2014V2 from MadCap Software. To gain support I suggest to test with the current version.
The issue may also be caused by something in your project (test it with sample projects) or your compilation environment, and it may be that it is to be observed only when NetHelp it opened locally.
I assume that my answer won’t satisfy you. It’s necessary that you do some more tests in order to find the cause of the issue.

We only have this problem in chrome (latest version to the date). We tested on Safari (mac) and Microsoft Edge (PC) without problems.
I got the latest version from D2H ten days ago. I tried to get updates every time y use it but it tells me that is up to date.
Something odd that I noticed is that the installer name is “SetupMadCapDocToHelp2014_2_943.exe” and the version installed on my PC is “2014.1.0.935″, it not seems to be the same. I tried to download it again from the madcap page but I get the same version, is that the latest?

Please, keep in mind that D2H2014V2 should ask you during setup of the .exe you mentioned to de-install older D2H versions. If it doesn’t ask, do it without being asked. D2H2014V2 wants a new activation key. It depends on the purchase date of your last D2H version whether you get it free or have to pay for it.
Additional infos for your Chrome issue. There is an article in MadCap’s knowledge base…

I installed the latest D2H that I got from the MadCap page 11 days ago on a clean Virtual Machine with no other versions of D2H on it.
The version installed is the one that is currently available for download… and it seems that is not the latest one, I think that you might want to check that.
About the access to local files from chrome, I followed the article and make it work, thank you!
